Your Pants Are On Fire

"I did a lot of things that were mostly right."

Um, I think the Illinois State Senate begs to differ. Good riddance bowl-cut.

If x = I Hate this Freaking Class, the Standard Deviation of x = Suck It, Nerds

I am taking a prerequisite statistics class this semester. It started last week and about 80% of the people in my class are of Indian descent. Most of them have only been in the U.S. for a couple of weeks, if even that long. One of the guys was pretty chatty and filled me in on his story and situation. He is Indian and had been living in Dubai working in sales. He was raised as a Hindu but eventually converted to Islam. He told me that, in his culture, most marriages were arranged (I knew this because: a. I'm smart and b. I watched the movie The Namesake. It's pretty good.) He decided that he did not want to participate in an arranged marriage, so he went searching for his bride on the internet instead.

He found an Iranian Muslim woman he wanted to marry on some website (I did not ask which site). He went to see her because he needed her father to sign a piece of paper in order to make their union legal. Without this piece of paper, he would be unable to take her to the U.S. with him. He faced disapproval from his family and hers, but managed to get the signature he needed. He is now in the process of arranging her move to the states. It was a very interesting story and even though I was completely creeped out by it and deeply offended on behalf of women everywhere, I hope everything works out for him and his mail order bride.

All that being said.....my statistics class is gut-wrenchingly horrible. I'm sure the class is not horrible for those who understand math, but I don't understand math so I hate it with the intensity of a million white hot suns. The teacher is nice and is a statistics/math genius, but I just don't 'get' the subject matter. The most frustrating part of this entire thing is that I have already taken and made an 'A' in the the class that I needed this particular prereq for. I have to take the class in order to graduate and therefore dropping it is not an option, but I will be sure to bitch, whine, moan, groan and complain my way through this semester. Poor Neal.

This Story is Nuts

Poisonous Testicles Send Diners to Hospital

Maybe it's just me, but if you go to a restaurant and order poisonous blowfish testicles as an entree, you're asking for it.

Britney

You know, Britney Spears has been around a long time and it is only in the past year that I decided I liked her music. You see, I'm normally pretty picky about what/who I listen to. I generally like people (mostly male) who write their own music, play an instrument, and can actually sing well. Britney can do none of these things, but I have come to accept that and appreciate her for what she is (pretty, crazy, and a really good performer.)

Britney's songs are perfect for exercising. Her music takes up the majority of my 'workout' playlist. She's going on tour soon and, I have to admit, I wouldn't mind seeing her live. I looked at tickets on stubhub and okay seats were going for over $300. I told Neal this and he said that if I wanted to watch a single mother from a small town in Louisiana dance on stage, wear skimpy outfits and lip sync, I could probably go to any strip club and get the same experience for a much cheaper price.

Peace out ya'll. ;)

First of All...

Intro
I have two friends that have recently started blogs so I'm going to go ahead and jump on the bandwagon. I have been toying with the idea of writing a blog for a while now and am fairly certain that I will, at some point, get tired of it and delete the entire thing. We shall see. For the next couple of months, however, updating this blog of my random thoughts and life updates will be just another outlet of procrastination while I finish up my last semester of graduate school, apply for jobs and coordinate an out-of-state move. Why wait to procrastinate?

Galveston
I spent this past weekend in Galveston with my extended family (Dad's side) and had a wonderful time. The family convened in Galveston to celebrate the recent marriage of my cousin. We had dinner and drinks at my aunt and uncle's Friday and then more drinks and food at a reception Saturday night at The Pelican Club/Gaido's restaurant. The seafood was AWESOME. And so were the drinks. I drank white wine until about 1opm when I thought it was a good idea to switch to bourbon. I stayed on the bourbon until about 2am. I would have stopped drinking at about 1:45am but my Dad's cousin was kind enough to sneak my cocktail out of the bar and into the car so I could enjoy the rest (my uncle was the DD, I wasn't driving). I was still tired from the weekend when I woke up this morning. I can't handle two days of partying anymore.

My aunt and uncle took us on a tour of destruction in Galveston. Overall, I would say that the island looked better than I expected it would, but you could still see remnants of Ike almost everywhere you looked. When I got to the island, I looked all around expecting to see a Katrina-like water line on houses, trees, buildings, etc. There was no water line though because the flood water receded relatively quickly. But then again, if I would have really thought about it ahead of time I would have rememberd that New Orleans is a bowl, and Galveston is not. Moody Gardens was open, the majority of shops on the Strand where not. The restaurant where I had my rehersal dinner just re-opened about a week ago. The island population has decreased and many businesses are struggling. Galveston is such a cool, unique place and I hope that it can quickly be restored to it's pre-Ike status. Of course I took no pictures this weekend and I absolutely should have (pictures of my family that is, not just destruction).

Rise and Shine Campers...
And don't forget your booties 'cause it's cold out there! Just wanted to remind ya'll that it's almost Groundhog Day. I don't really care about Groundhog Day b/c I live in the hot dirty south where 6 more weeks of "winter" means nothing, but I do care about watching Groundhog Day the movie as many times as possible in a 24 hour period. Don't say I don't have goals.

And Like That, Poof, She Was Gone
A staple of our apartment complex has moved out. Smokes-a-Lot lady has taken her cigs and her wide array of tracksuits and has moved out of her apartment. S.A.L lived in an apartment whose balcony faces our balcony. Anytime I'm looking out the window or have been coming and going, I could always look across the parking lot and see S.A.L. puffing away, on her porch, while dressed in a very colorful, yet comfortable outfit. During the summer, we would see her at the pool floating on a raft or sunning on a chair and puffing away. And now, she's just, gone. She's the freakin' Keyser Soze of cigarette smoking recluses. Good bye Smokes-a-Lot, I wish you all the best sunbathing, track suits and nicotene life has to offer.

Okay, I'm out. Time for the exciting world of Business Statistics. I'll catch up with ya'll later.
