IntroI have two friends that have recently started blogs so I'm going to go ahead and jump on the bandwagon. I have been toying with the idea of writing a blog for a while now and am fairly certain that I will, at some point, get tired of it and delete the entire thing. We shall see. For the next couple of months, however, updating this blog of my random thoughts and life updates will be just another outlet of procrastination while I finish up my last semester of graduate school, apply for jobs and coordinate an out-of-state move. Why wait to procrastinate?
GalvestonI spent this past weekend in Galveston with my extended family (Dad's side) and had a wonderful time. The family convened in Galveston to celebrate the recent marriage of my cousin. We had dinner and drinks at my aunt and uncle's Friday and then more drinks and food at a reception Saturday night at The Pelican Club/Gaido's restaurant. The seafood was AWESOME. And so were the drinks. I drank white wine until about 1opm when I thought it was a good idea to switch to bourbon. I stayed on the bourbon until about 2am. I would have stopped drinking at about 1:45am but my Dad's cousin was kind enough to sneak my cocktail out of the bar and into the car so I could enjoy the rest (my uncle was the DD, I wasn't driving). I was still tired from the weekend when I woke up this morning. I can't handle two days of partying anymore.
My aunt and uncle took us on a tour of destruction in Galveston. Overall, I would say that the island looked better than I expected it would, but you could still see remnants of Ike almost everywhere you looked. When I got to the island, I looked all around expecting to see a Katrina-like water line on houses, trees, buildings, etc. There was no water line though because the flood water receded relatively quickly. But then again, if I would have really thought about it ahead of time I would have rememberd that New Orleans is a bowl, and Galveston is not. Moody Gardens was open, the majority of shops on the Strand where not. The restaurant where I had my rehersal dinner just re-opened about a week ago. The island population has decreased and many businesses are struggling. Galveston is such a cool, unique place and I hope that it can quickly be restored to it's pre-Ike status. Of course I took no pictures this weekend and I absolutely should have (pictures of my family that is, not just destruction).
Rise and Shine Campers...And don't forget your booties 'cause it's cold out there! Just wanted to remind ya'll that it's almost Groundhog Day. I don't really care about Groundhog Day b/c I live in the hot dirty south where 6 more weeks of "winter" means nothing, but I do care about watching
Groundhog Day the movie as many times as possible in a 24 hour period. Don't say I don't have goals.
And Like That, Poof, She Was GoneA staple of our apartment complex has moved out. Smokes-a-Lot lady has taken her cigs and her wide array of tracksuits and has moved out of her apartment. S.A.L lived in an apartment whose balcony faces our balcony. Anytime I'm looking out the window or have been coming and going, I could always look across the parking lot and see S.A.L. puffing away, on her porch, while dressed in a very colorful, yet comfortable outfit. During the summer, we would see her at the pool floating on a raft or sunning on a chair and puffing away. And now, she's just, gone. She's the freakin' Keyser Soze of cigarette smoking recluses. Good bye Smokes-a-Lot, I wish you all the best sunbathing, track suits and nicotene life has to offer.
Okay, I'm out. Time for the exciting world of Business Statistics. I'll catch up with ya'll later.
